Census Survey Software for Efficient Data Collection

The objective of the project was to devise an effective automated data collection solution for the official authority responsible for collecting, preparing, compiling, and disseminating statistics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Previously over 5,000 enumerators conducted the census survey using paper-based methods. This was time-consuming labor-intensive, and prone to errors. Implementing the use of iPads and Samsung tablets was aimed at increasing the accuracy of data collection leading to more reliable and timely census data.

The top challenge was the large-scale nature of the census data. The system had to have the capability to handle massive datasets with information collected from individuals, corporations, and establishments. It should be able to store, process, and analyze this vast amount of data without the performance getting affected. The solution is required to be powerful with high scalability to support numerous enumerators and administrators accessing it simultaneously. The complex census data had to be presented in a clear and user-friendly manner for effective decision-making. The data visualization dashboard needed to be intuitive so the key metrics can be easily analyzed.

The Census Survey Software simplifies large-scale census operations through a centralized web-based Back Office Module (BOM) for secure and efficient data management. The Census Survey Software integrates GIS-enabled mobile devices, real-time location tracking through a Mobile Location Server (MLS), and interactive map clients for Android and iPad to ensure accurate, location-specific data collection.
