EMR means Electronic Medical Records. This project is merged with its own desktop application which is Hospital Management System. It is an electronic medical record that helps hospital staff to maintain an easy-to-access record of data. Using this application, users can easily take printouts from any printer which is available in the network. Health care organizations around the world are recognizing the benefits of maintaining electronic medical records for patients with improved quality of service, free flow of information, reduced cost of operations. Recognizing these benefits as opportunities, health care providers are in the process of migrating from paper-based health care records to electronic medical systems. Moving patients’ records from paper and physical filing systems to tablets creates great efficiencies for patients and their providers. But efficiency isn’t the only benefit. For individual patients, access to good care becomes easier and safer when records can easily be shared. Important information — such as prescribed drugs, medical conditions, and other aspects of our medical history — can be accounted for much more quickly. At the very least, an EMR can save time at the doctor’s office. At most, quick access to records can be lifesaving if an emergency occurs, and answers to those questions are needed during the emergency decision-making process.
Getting the most out of an EMR system means supporting it with an infrastructure that is reliable, cost-effective, and flexible enough to accommodate the data. The proposed application has a web version (EMR) and a desktop version (HMS) available on market. The requirement of the client is to develop an android version, so that application would be more enhanced, portable, handy, and user-friendly.

HMS (Hospital Management System) is used for the initial registration process of patients to the hospital. Once a patient is enlisted in the hospital DB through HMS, then that patient will be available to EMR – both Web and Desktop — applications. EMR applications mainly focused on Patient’s medical records while HMS focused more on hospital management. Softnotions created an android version of the EMR application which is a more efficient and handy tool for physicians/nurses.
Integrate clinical data across EMR web application and HMS desktop application- which are at the client’s side – for a more complete view of clinical quality and care activities. EMR android version uses the same database of HMS and EMR web applications. Hence the data can be shared between these systems. Updating of data in any one system reflects in the EMR android application also.
The core features of the EMR application is as follows
Health information and data: Immediate access to key information would improve the ability of clinicians to make sound decisions in a timely manner. Those data include patients’ diagnoses, allergies, and laboratory test results.
Results management: Quick access to new and past test results by all clinicians involved in treating a patient. Any physician can take a printout of the patient’s full history by clicking All Visit Print.
Order management: Online/Offline entry and storage of data on medications and tests.
Electronic communication and connectivity: Secure and readily accessible communication among clinicians and patients.

Monitor patient’s latest vital signs, OPD Assessment details, lab results, radiology results. EMR android application stores the patient’s updated information’s that can be retrieved at any time.
View Scans images as well as documents. Patient scan images and other documents can be viewed in the EMR android application.
Trigger print for various clinical reports (Prescription, Laboratory, Radiology, Current Visit, All Visit, Reference details, etc.) right from the device itself. Physician/nurse can take printouts of required reports directly from the android device in any nearby printer which is connected via LAN.
Generate CPT Code for physicians.
Tragic events like 9/11, Hurricane Katrina have showcased the benefits of digital record keeping. Those injured or made sick by any of those events were more easily treated and may have found better outcomes than those for whom no medical records were available. Large-scale EMR systems replicate their stored records in several places across the country so that one tragic event won’t destroy them.
Another benefit is safety. In the past, the way a doctor obtained your health history was by asking you. Each time you visited a new doctor’s office, you filled out forms about your history, including previous surgeries, or the drugs you take on a regular basis. If you forgot a piece of information, or if you didn’t write it down because it seemed unimportant to you, then your doctor didn’t have that piece of your medical puzzle to work with.
However, when doctors share records electronically, your new doctor only needs to ask your name, birth date, and possibly another piece of identifying information. They can then pull up your records from their electronic storage space. All of the information he/she needs to see will be there in full. When it comes time to diagnose you, it might be important to identify that you are taking a certain kind of medication, or even an herbal supplement — any information shared with a previous doctor. Diagnosis and treatment decisions might be altered based on that information, which is far more complete than what you might have written down on paper.
Money is saved by using electronic medical records; not just the cost of paper and file folders, but the cost of labor and space, too. In any business, time equals money. The efficiencies created by simply typing a few identifying keystrokes to retrieve a patient’s record — as opposed to staring at thousands of file folders, filing and refilling them — saves a doctor’s practice or a hospital many thousands of dollars. That’s even taking the cost of the electronic system into account.
Currently, a desktop and a web version of the EMR application are available there on the Middle East market. The absence of an android version leads the client to develop the requirement.
