Business Objective
The objective of the project was to devise an effective automated data collection solution for the official authority responsible for collecting, preparing, compiling, and disseminating statistics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Previously over 5,000 enumerators conducted the census survey using paper-based methods. This was time-consuming labor-intensive, and prone to errors. Implementing the use of iPads and Samsung tablets was aimed at increasing the accuracy of data collection leading to more reliable and timely census data.
Business Challenges
The top challenge was the large-scale nature of the census data. The system had to have the capability to handle massive datasets with information collected from individuals, corporations, and establishments. It should be able to store, process, and analyze this vast amount of data without the performance getting affected. The solution is required to be powerful with high scalability to support numerous enumerators and administrators accessing it simultaneously. The complex census data had to be presented in a clear and user-friendly manner for effective decision-making. The data visualization dashboard needed to be intuitive so the key metrics can be easily analyzed.
Solutions Proposed
The Softnotions utilized a web-based Back Office Module (BOM), which acts as the central hub for the entire census project. The BOM is accessible via the internet or a secure intranet connection (VPN) by authorized personnel across various locations. The
Enumerators in the field used devices integrated with a Geographic Information System (GIS) to provide critical location-based functionalities. To ensure data is collected within designated areas, the Mobile Location Server (MLS) tracks the enumerators’ locations in real time. Map Clients for both iPad and Android devices offer visual aids to assist enumerators in collecting data accurately.
